The
college proposal is in line with the Ethiopian government objective to bring
modern day industry to Ethiopia, especially under developed regions like
Shashemane. Ethiopia has a large population of which Shashemane has an
estimated population of 100,000. An international community exists in
Shashemane and unemployment is high amongst the youth hence the requirement and
demands for a college to offer high-quality education.
This project
relates to the our 1st objected which focuses on advancing education
and training of tradesmen and women, young people with a particular focus on
women in Ethiopia whose access to the economy is limited to prostitution.
This in turn has an adverse affect on the HIV pandemic in Ethiopia therefore the
socio-economic well being of the country. For example, HIV is significant
in the decline of professionals such as teachers, nurses and doctors. |
The
Trustee’s were successful in securing an investment license to establish a
Technical and Vocational College in the province of Shashemane. The
charity will make an assessment of the long-term affects the college will have
on the wider community. The college will equip students with the
manufacturing skills needed for industrial development.
|
The initial cost proposed for this project is
£5 Million.
The college will focus on education for
sustainability. The aim of the charity is to provide an educational
establishment with high quality teaching and delivery of the curriculum,
excellent facilities with state of the Art equipment. The college will be
designed and built to use renewable energy; this will be very beneficial as it
will be cost effective in the long-term in regards to the management of the
college’s budget and use of resources. In addition, each faculty will be
self sufficient and sell a percentage of the products made.

Care, Medical, Construction and Alternative Energy. In
addition there will be one faculty for English, Maths, ICT, Law,

The college will enable Global African
Development to bring in professionals with various
expertises into the country as we will be providing
accommodation for staff. Employment of highly
qualified local and international staff will help to improve
the standards of Ethiopians living in their communities and
prepare them for the wider society.

Nearly 60% of HIV+ individuals in
Ethiopia are women due to reasons such as poverty and a lack of
access to education.
